TRIAL MOTIONS AND TRIAL CALENDARS
Friday, January 22, 2021, 8:30 a.m.
Courtroom 18 – Hon. Jennifer V. Dollard
3055 Cleveland Avenue, Santa Rosa, California

PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with the Addendum to First Amended Omnibus Order of the Presiding Judge issued May 27, 2020, only those persons with court hearings in criminal actions shall enter a Sonoma County Superior Court facility. Until further notice, all matters set for hearing in this courtroom shall be heard remotely through Zoom. No party or representative of a party may appear personally in Courtroom 18. CourtCall is not permitted for this calendar.

Civil Jury Trials:

You must appear on the presently scheduled Friday, 8:30 calendar date, which will now function as a trial resetting hearing. The court will discuss with the parties a new trial date and extension of the discovery cut-off date. Absent a request to the contrary, if the vacated trial date was the initial trial date, the Court intends to order that the re-set trial date will function as the initial trial date for all purposes.

Court Trials:

ALL CIVIL COURT TRIALS REMAIN AS SET IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2021. The court’s ability to conduct a court trial set in January or February 2021 will be limited to trials conducted by remote appearance (via Zoom) only. All parties/counsel should have already met and conferred upon about whether: 1) all parties agree to a trial via Zoom; 2) if so, how they propose to exchange and submit exhibits to the court; 3) whether all witnesses and exhibits will be available for presentation via Zoom; and 4) any other issues raised in their particular case if trial is to be held via Zoom. You must appear on the presently scheduled Friday, 8:30 a.m. calendar date to discuss whether the parties agree to a trial via Zoom and procedurally how the matter will proceed. If there is not unanimous consent to a trial via Zoom, or the case is not conducive to trial via Zoom, the court will discuss with the parties a new trial date and extension of the discovery cut-off date, as explained in the Civil Jury Trial section above.

All appearances at the Friday, 8:30 a.m. hearing date shall be via Zoom only. No in person appearances are authorized. The Zoom information for D18 is below:

Guide for participating in court proceedings via Zoom in Department 18.

-After joining the meeting and checking in with the clerk, please mute your audio when not speaking. This helps keep background noise to a minimum.
-Be mindful of background noise when your microphone is not muted. Avoid activities that could create additional noise, such as shuffling papers.
-Position your camera properly if you choose to use a web camera. Be sure it is in a stable position and focused at eye level, if possible. Make sure everything visible in the frame is appropriate for an appearance in court.
-If a confidential session becomes necessary it is incumbent on you to ensure you are able to participate from a private location so that unauthorized people cannot overhear or see the proceedings.
-Chat is enabled for the sharing of documents among participants and the court and to allow attorneys to communicate individually with each other or their clients only. No chat messages should be sent privately to the court as it would amount to an unauthorized ex parte communication. Neither should chat messages be sent to all participants unless directed by the court.
-The recording function has been disabled. Remember, the prohibition against recording court proceedings, even remote ones, remains.
-Be patient. Check in will take more time and the experience from those who have tried this before is that proceedings are a little slower generally.

The following cases will be called on the Civil Trial and/or Trial Motions Calendars. All trial counsel are required to appear via Zoom.
